Home to the world’s first modern civilisation, Asia features a wide variety of cultural heritage of many nationalities, societies, and ethnic groups in the region. There are an abundance of ethnic groups throughout Asia, with adaptations to the varied climate zones of Asia.
The music, dance, art, literature and food of Asia is as vast and unique as the many cultures and peoples who inhabit the region.
Asia was the birthplace of most of the world's mainstream religions including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Jainism, Sikhism, Zoroastrianism, as well as many other religions.
There is a wide variety of languages spoken throughout Asia, comprising a number of families and some unrelated isolates. For instance, according to Ethnologue, more than 600 languages are spoken in Indonesia, more than 800 languages spoken in India, and more than 100 are spoken in the Philippines.
The Asia Council’s Forum for Inter-Cultural Dialogue promotes understanding and sustained interaction among all major cultures of Asia.
